BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Senior guard Kara Pile earned a spot on the 2011-12 Capital One Academic All-District 4 Women's Basketball Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), marking the sixth time Union women's basketball player received the honor.

The Fairdale, Ky., native is the first Lady Bulldog to make the Academic All-District Team since the 2009-10.

The College Division is made of NAIA, junior colleges and Canadian colleges and universities, while District 4 consists of schools from Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana and Tennessee.

To be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must be a sophomore, junior or senior with a minimum 3.30 grade-point average and participate in at least 50 percent of their team's games.

A middle school education major, Pile has started and played in 22 games this season, averaging 12.8 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. She has 65 assists and 32 steals to her credit. On Jan. 21, Pile scored a career-high 38 points in an 83-70 win over Bryan (Tenn.).

Pile is 11th on the Lady Bulldog all-time scoring list with 1,151 career points and 14th in rebounding at 398.

By virtue of making the All-District 4 First Team, Pile is now eligible for the 2011-12 Capital One Academic All-America Women's Basketball Team.

Union is 18-7 overall and 9-5 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.
