BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – Despite a season-high 14 points from Brian Kirk, the Union College Bulldogs dropped a home Appalachian Athletic Conference contest 67-45 against No. 21 King (Tenn.) College on Tuesday.

Kirk (Augusta, Ky.) scored ten of his points in the first half as the Bulldogs could only score 24 points as a team. It also marked Kirk's second double-digit scoring effort of the season. He also tied a season high with four steals.

The contest was the first conference game for both teams and Union moved to 4-3 overall with a 0-1 conference mark. King improved to 7-1 overall and 1-0 in the AAC.

The Bulldogs scored the first points of the game when Josh Hurd (Independence, Ky.) scored and it was the last advantage Union would own. King took the lead and never looked back as the Tornado took a 42-24 lead into the halftime break.

King continued to extend the lead in the final half en route to the 22-point win. The closest the Bulldogs could cut into the deficit was 17 points, 47-30, with 14 minutes left in the game.

Aaron Dunaway (Lexington, Ky.) added nine points for Union’s cause.

King got 14 points from both Torrington Cox and Mark Dockery. Cox also grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds. J.T. Blair added 13 points from the bench.

The Tornado squad collected ten offensive rebounds and converted that into 13 second-chance points compared to Union’s three second-chance points.

The Bulldogs attempted more shots, 60, but only made 16 and King made a total of 28 shots out of 55 attempts.

Union will return to action Saturday when the Bulldogs will travel to Montreat (N.C.) College for a 6 p.m. AAC contest.
