BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – The Union College men's swimming team owns seven top-20 NAIA times as announced by the NAIA Wednesday. The Bulldogs have three individual marks and four relay teams in the top 20.
A pair of freshmen, Michael Viscardi (Marietta, Ga.) and Colin McEachran (Blenheim, Canada), has qualified individually.
Viscardi is 11th in a pair of breaststroke events, the 100-yard and 200. The 100 breaststroke time of one minute and 3.52 seconds was recorded on November 3 while his 2:21.59 in the 200 was a week later. Viscardi is also a part of all four relay teams as well.
McEachran posted a time of 11:24.75 on November 3 to qualify in the 1,000 freestyle. He currently is ranked 20th nationally.
The highest ranked team is the 400 freestyle relay team in seventh. Viscardi, Karl Smith (Lexington, Ky.), Jeremiah Back (Flatgap, Ky.) and Adam Woodward (Hopkinsville, Ky.) finished the event with a time of 3:34.93.
Another pair of Bulldog relay teams are in ninth, the 200 freestyle and 400 medley.
The quartet of Viscardi, Smith, Back and Woodward qualified on November 14 when they finished with a time of 1:35.60 in the 200 freestyle.
Corbin Melton (Barbourville, Ky.) joined Viscardi, Back and Woodward on the 400 medley team. They qualified on November 10 with a time of 4:07.75.
McEachran, Viscardi, Back and Woodward are 13th in the 200 medley relay after they posted a time of 1:51.19 on November 3.
The Bulldogs will have another chance to add more national qualifiers this weekend at the Asbury College Invitational in Wilmore, Ky.
