BEREA, Ky. -- The Union College men's and women's track & field squads opened their 2012 outdoor seasons on Saturday at the Kentucky Small College Invitational, held in Berea. 

For the women, who finished seventh in the meet, freshman Helen Weber broke the school record in the high jump with a mark of four feet, 10 inches, placing second in the event. Weber also finished sixth in the long jump with a leap of 13 feet.

In other field events, Kelsey Gregory finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 93 feet, one inch, while Kayse Cornett finished fifth in the pole vault with a mark of 28 feet, eight inches.

For the men, who finished fourth in the event, Mike Baird placed third in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:21.20, while teammate Bradley Fieldhouse was fourth in 11:31.80. 

In the field events, Fieldhouse captured the pole vault with a mark of 13 feet. Meanwhile, William White finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 40 feet, 10 inches, and fifth in the discus at 110 feet, four inches.

Union returns to action on Friday when they take part in the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C.
