PIKEVILLE, Ky. --
The Union College softball team dropped a pair of games at the University of Pikeville (Ky.) on Monday in an NAIA doubleheader. The Lady Bulldogs lost the first game 5-2, then dropped the second game, 4-3.
In game one, Pikeville jumped out to a 4-0 lead on UC starter Rachel Cogdill
in the bottom of the first, and never looked back in the three run victory.
Cogdill (3-3) took the loss in the circle for the Lady Bulldogs after only tossing an inning. Meanwhile, reliever Alissa Hampton
was solid in long relief, giving up just one run on four hits in six innings of work.
In the second game, miscues cost the Lady Bulldogs, as a critical error in the second inning led to three Pikeville runs in the eventual one-run loss. In game two, Abby Sears
(10-4) was the loser for UC, despite only giving up one earned run in the contest.
The Lady Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.) for another out-of-conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
