JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. --
The Union College women's track & field team finished second overall, while the men's team placed fourth at the 2012 Appalachian Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship, held at Sidney Smallwood Track Thursday.
For the women, freshman Helen Weber
had the team's most impressive day. In the high jump, Weber finished first, registering a leap of four feet, 10.25 inches, which broke both a Union record and an AAC Outdoor meet record, as well. Weber also placed first in the long jump with a mark of 13 feet, 10.25 inches.
In other women's field events, Abby Tigue
finished second in two events - the discus with a toss of 98 feet, six inches (a new school record), and the shot put with a 32 foot, seven inch effort. Meanwhile, Kayse Cornett
was fourth in the shot put (30 feet, two inches) and Kelsey Gregory
placed third (95 feet, eight inches).
For the men, William White
had the best finish of the day, placing third in the shot put with a throw of 41 feet, 11.25 inches. White also placed fourth in the discus with a 119 foot, one inch effort.
The Union track & field teams return to action on April 28 at the Bellarmine Classic in Louisville, Ky.
