BARBOURVILLE, Ky. -- Union College head men's swimming coach Rafael Forti has announced that Martino Cervera has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Bulldog program this fall. Cervera is a native of Lugo, Spain.

"I am happy to have Martino joining our program this coming fall," said Forti. "He has lots of intangibles, both competitively and academically  As a very experienced swimmer - despite of being a true freshmen - he will add depth to our mid-distance and distance freestyle events, as well as backstroke events. He will be an asset for us right away."

Cervera, who plans to swim the 200-free, along with the 400-free and 200-back for the Bulldogs, enrolls into Union from Ollos Grandes & Lucus Augusti High School in his native Spain. In his homeland, Cerevera has been swimming competitvely for the last 12 years, while clubbing with Club Fluvial de Lugo.

Competitively, Cervera finished third in his age group (13-14) at the Spanish National Championships, and also set a 200-back time record for his club team.

Cervera plans to major in mathematics at Union College.
