BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College Interim Director of Athletics Tim Curry recently announced the hiring of Bryce Seals as the new full-time cheerleading and dance coach.
Seals is the first-ever full-time coach for the cheerleading
program. In addition, the dance team is a newly added program to the athletic
department and will make its debut during the 2012-13 academic year.
"We are excited and pleased to have Bryce join our staff,"
said Curry. "He is very accomplished in his young career as a cheerleading
coach, and I look forward to seeing him bring the same excitement and success
here at Union."
Seals commented, "I'm excited to be here at Union, and I'm
excited the college is putting an emphasis on cheer and dance now."
A native of Berea, Ky., Seals is a 2009 graduate of Eastern
Kentucky with a degree in public relations. With over a decade worth of
experience in cheer, Seals was a member of the Kentucky Elite All-Stars from
2000-03 and cheered at Eastern Kentucky from 2006-09. In addition, he worked at
Varsity Brands from 2006-10.
During the past two years, Seals has coached a pair of
eastern Kentucky high school programs, leading them to several awards and
honors. He coached at Clay County High from 2010-11, helping the cheer teams to
several titles including second place at the 2011 UCA Nationals in the Small
Varsity Division as well as first place in the 2011 KAPOS Girls Sweet 16 State
In-Game. Seals led the squads at Perry County Central High from 2010-12,
assisting them to numerous honors including first place at the 2012 ICU World
Championships in the Small Varsity Division and first place at the 2012 KAPOS
State At-Large - Small Varsity Division.
"I look forward to building a reputable program here, one
that will interest student-athletes into coming to Union College," said Seals.
During the past few years, Union has had some success at national
competitions as it has won national titles at CANAM National Championships.
