ROSELAND, N.J. - The Union College football team had four players named to the 20th Annual USA College Football NAIA Pre-Season All-American Teams, USA College Football announced earlier this week.
The Bulldogs placed two offensive and two defensive players on the squad. Senior running back Rob Brown and senior defensive back Bert Brown each made the first team, while senior quarterback Mike Brinkley and senior linebacker Isiah Anderson made the second team.
Rob Brown (Daytona Beach, Fla.) rushed for 1,110 yards and 10 touchdowns last season, averaging 5.1 yards per carry. He also caught 23 passes for 312 yards and two more scores, compiling a total of 1,510 all-purpose yards. Brown ranks fourth on Union's all-time rushing list with 2,017 career yards.
Bert Brown (Daytona Beach, Fla.) registered 45 total tackles with 34 solos as he broke up nine passes and intercepted three in 2011. To date, he has seven career inceptions, five shy of tying the school record.
Brinkley (Anthony, Fla.) was injured in the 2011 season opener and missed the rest of the year. However, he is expected to pick up where he left off with his record-setting career. To date, Brinkley is the only quarterback in Bulldog history to record three seasons with at least 2,000 yards passing. Already the school record holder for most touchdowns in a game (6), season (32) and career (78), Brinkley has 497 completions for 7,186 yards and will seek to break the career marks in those categories.
Anderson (Boston, Mass.) had a solid first season with the Bulldogs in 2011, registering 44 total tackles with 7.5 tackles for a loss and 5.0 quarterback sacks. In addition, he intercepted two passes, broke up two others and recovered one fumble. Anderson recorded a season-high nine tackles twice - first against Cumberland (Tenn.) on Oct. 29 and then against versus Shorter (Ga.) on Nov. 5. He posted a team-high 3.0 sacks for a loss of 14 yards against Belhaven (Miss.) on Oct. 22.
Union went 2-9 overall and 1-5 in the Mid-South Conference West in 2011. The Bulldogs moved back to the MSC East for the 2012 and will open the season on Sept. 1 at Lindsey Wilson (Ky.). Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. Eastern.
