ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Union is the favorite to win the 2012 Appalachian Athletic Conference championships, according to the AAC Coaches' Poll released on Wednesday.

Union garnered seven first-place votes and tallied 87 total points to be the overwhelming favorite. Bryan (Tenn.) is picked to finish second as the Lady Lions received one first-place vote and 75 total points.

Milligan (Tenn.) and Montreat (N.C.) each collected 65 total points, but in a tie-breaker vote, Milligan was selected to place third. Columbia (S.C.) picked up the final first-place vote and had 61 points to land fifth.

Making up the rest of the field are Virginia Intermont (47) in sixth, Reinhardt (Ga.) (46) in seventh, Tennessee Wesleyan (24) in eighth, Point (Ga.) (21) in ninth and St. Andrews (N.C.) (9) in 10th.

Last season, Union won the regular-season title with a 14-2 conference mark. The Lady Bulldogs advanced to the AAC Tournament championship match, but lost 3-1 to Montreat.

The 2012 AAC Tournament is set for Nov. 7-9 at the MeadowView Conference Resort & Convention Center in Kingsport, Tenn. 

Union will open the 2012 season on Aug. 24-25 at the Lee (Tenn.) University Invitational in Cleveland, Tenn.
