ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The Union College men's soccer team was picked to finish fifth in the 2012 Appalachian Athletic Confernce men's soccer coaches poll, which was released today. Union recieved 38 votes in the poll, the same as conference rival Reinhardt.
Tennessee Wesleyan was picked first in the poll, garnering 60 points and five first place votes, while Milligan received the other two first-place votes as it came in second with 55 points. The Buffaloes won the 2011 regular-season crown with a 7-0 league mark as they ended the year 12-5.
Montreat, which surprised everyone by winning the 2011 tournament championship and advancing to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round as the sixth seed, is third with 41 points. Bryan follows in fourth with 39 points, with UC and Reinhardt locked in fifth. Rounding out the rest of the field are: Virginia Intermont (20 points) in seventh, St. Andrews (14 points) in eighth, and Point (10 points) in ninth.
Union, who went 10-7-2 a season ago under head coach Tyler Brock
, open their 2012 season this weekend, hosting the Bulldog Classic at Burch/Nau Field. The Bulldogs open play in the Classic at 12 noon on Friday, hosting Emmanuel (Ga.).
