ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Union College forward Sofie Jorgensen has been named the Appalachian Athletic Conference's Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Jorgensen (Oksbol, Denmark), a junior, scored four goals this week, as the Lady Bulldogs went 1-0-1 in two AAC matches.
First, she scored two goals and added an assist in Union's convincing 9-0 win over Virginia Intermont on Wednesday. The nine-goal victory was the biggest for the Lady Bulldogs in three years, and their biggest AAC win in six years.
Jorgensen followed up that performance with another multiple goal game at Reinhardt on Saturday, scoring both of Union's goals in a 2-2, double overtime draw. Both of Jorgensen's goals were equalizers, with the final goal coming in the 66th minute.
For the year, Jorgensen has scored eight goals (out of 17 for the Lady Bulldogs), which is the highest mark on both the team and in the AAC on the young season. With her first assist on Wednesday, she has accumulated 17 total points, and leads the conference in points per game (3.40 points per game).
Jorgensen and the rest of the Lady Bulldog women's soccer team return to the pitch on Wednesday when they host Bryan (Tenn.) in another AAC tilt. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Burch/Nau Field.
