ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Union College's Helen Weber and Casey Camargo were named the Appalachian Athletic Conference's Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, the league announced on Monday.
The pair led the Lady Bulldogs to a banner week, as the squad went 2-0 in AAC matches, beating Bryan (4-1) on Wednesday, and Columbia (1-0) on Saturday. With the victories, UC improved to 5-1-1 on the year, and 3-0-1 in the AAC.
Weber, a sophomore forward, paced the Lady Bulldog offense on the week, scoring three goals.
Weber kicked things off on the week with a two goal effort against Bryan, adding an assist in the three-goal win. She followed that up by scoring the lone goal in the Columbia match. The goal came in the eighth minute, as Union hung on for the one-score win.
For the year, Weber has scored seven goals, which is tied for the second best mark in the league to date. She's also notched three assists on the year, as well.
Camargo, a senior defender, anchored the UC defense to a dominating week. In all, the Lady Bulldogs allowed just a goal and eight combined shots (three against Bryan and five against Columbia) on the week.
For the year, Camargo has made a start in the Union defense in all eight matches. The Lady Bulldogs are allowing just 1.14 goals a contest, which is the fourth best mark in the AAC.
The Union College women's soccer team returns to the pitch on Wednesday when they travel to rival Cumberlands (Ky.). Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
