NIOTA, Tenn. - The Union women's golf team took first and second place on Tuesday as it won the Appalachian Athletic Conference Fall Tournament and was runner-up in the Tennessee Wesleyan Invitational.
The tournaments were held at the Springbrook Golf and Country Club.
The Lady Bulldogs fired a two-day score of 689 to best SCAD-Atlanta (Ga.) by one stroke to win the AAC Fall Tournament. In all, eight teams competed in this field. Overall, there were nine teams at the tournament with NCAA Division II Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) winning the Tennessee Wesleyan Invitational with a score of 677.
In the field for the AAC Tournament, Union and SCAD-Atlanta took the top two spots with Tennessee Wesleyan third at 692, meaning the top three teams were all within three strokes of one another. Milligan (Tenn.) and St. Andrews (N.C.) placed fourth and fifth at 710 and 713, respectively. Bryan (Tenn.) shot a 721 to place sixth, while Reinhardt (Ga.) finished seventh at 754 and Columbia (S.C.) eight at 776.
Union did not have a top-five finisher and only had one in the top 10. However, the Lady Bulldogs placed four in the top 21 to land them the AAC Fall title.
Brittany Zins paced Union as she placed tied for ninth at 166. Katie Nusz tied for 12th with a 169, and Danielle Judd came in 20th at 177. Ashley Buxton ended up tied for 21st with a 178 to round out Union's scoring.
