CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - The Union bowling teams opened the 2012-13 campaign at the Green River Classic at Phillips Lanes in Campbellsville, Ky., with the Lady Bulldogs placing ninth and the Bulldogs taking 12th.

The Lady Bulldogs posted a total pin fall of 5,677 to come in 9th in a field of 13 teams, finishing 87 pins behind eighth-place Bethel (Tenn.). Pikeville (Ky.) won the event with a score of 6,762, edging its 'B' squad by 18 pins. Host Campbellsville took third at 6,078. Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) and St. Catharine (Ky.) rounded out the top five with scores of 6,071 and 6,047.

Union did place three ladies in the top 20 with senior Christy King leading the way with a ninth-place finish as she posted a pin fall of 874. Katelynn George finished 16th at 804, while Laurel Everett was 17th at 798. 

Kaylee Magazine of Pikeville took top individual honors with a pin fall of 1,040.

The Bulldogs posted a pin fall of 6,174 to place 12th, coming in 46 pins back of Pikeville 'C' team in 11th. Pikeville 'B' team won the event with a score of 7,020, while Louisville (Ky.) was second at 6,865. Pikeville 'A' team was third at 6,856. There were 19 teams in the field.

James Durland paced Union with a 34th-place finish as he recorded an 861 pin fall. Keith Venis took 39th with an 838, and Jonathan Courtney was 40th at 826. 

Brian Picker of Pikeville led all bowlers with a 1,048 pin fall.

Union returns to action on Nov. 3-4 when it participates in the Brunswick Zone in Marietta, Ga.
