BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The Union volleyball team dropped a 3-0 Appalachian Athletic Conference match to visiting Bryan (Tenn.) on Monday, marking the first time the Lady Bulldogs lost a home conference match since 2008.
Bryan took the match by the scores of 25-22, 25-22, 25-18.
Union had won its last 31 home conference matches. Former AAC member King (Tenn.) was the last to beat Union at Robsion Arena in a 3-0 contest on Sept. 9, 2008.
The loss puts the Lady Bulldogs at 8-12 overall and 4-3 in conference play, while the Lady Lions are now 18-7 overall and 7-1 in the AAC.
The opening set was a see-saw battle but Union led 18-15. Bryan fought back and claimed a 21-20 lead. After Union tied it at 21-all on a Christa Hicks kill, Bryan scored four of the final five points to take the set 25-22.
The second set was much like the first as Union once again held an 18-15 lead. However, Bryan used a 6-0 rally to take a 21-18 advantage. Union cut it to 21-20, but once again, Bryan closed the frame by taking four of the final six points to win 25-22.
Bryan controlled much of the third set, leading by as much as 19-15. Union got the deficit down to three, yet Bryan took the final four points to capture the 25-18 decision and 3-0 match victory.
Union returns to action on Wednesday when it plays host to AAC newcomer Point (Ga.). Match time is set for 6:30 p.m.
