BRISTOL, Tenn. - Sophomore Thomas Scott shot an even-par 71 to tie him for second overall and play him on the all-tournament team as the Union men's golf team finished fifth at the Fall Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament at Clear Creek Golf Course in Bristol, Tenn., on Tuesday.
Union started the day in fourth and shot three strokes better during the final round. However, the Bulldogs lost ground and ended up fifth with a score of 627. Tennessee Wesleyan won with a 608, while Milligan (Tenn.) shot a 614 to take second. Virginia Intermont (619) was third and Reinhardt (Ga.) (623) was fourth.
Making up the rest of the nine-team field were St. Andrews (N.C.) (629) in sixth, SCAD-Atlanta (Ga.) (639) in seventh, Bryan (Tenn.) (657) in eighth and Montreat (N.C.) (678) in ninth.
The tournament was also held inconjunction with the Virginia Intermont Invitational, and Union placed sixth in the 12-team field. NCAA Division III Spalding (Ky.) tied Reinhardt for fourth.
Individually, Scott went into the final round tied for seventh with a four-over 75. He finished with a 146 to tie him with Tennessee Wesleyan's Josh Wheeler for second. Virginia Intermont's Trevor Banks took top honors with a 137. Also making the all-tournament team were Cody Godfrey of Tennessee Wesleyan and Keith Thompson of Spalding as both tied for fourth with a 149.
Union returns to action on Monday when it participates in the Berry Invitational in Rome, Ga.
