BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Freshman forward Cole Bray scored three times in the second half, as the Union College men's soccer team knocked off Point (Ga.), 5-1, in Appalachian Athletic Conference action on Saturday at Burch/Nau Field.
With the win, Union went to 3-7-1 overall, 1-4 in the AAC, while Point fell to 4-9-2 on the year, 0-5 in the AAC with the loss.
In the first period, the Bulldogs got off to a fast start, as Jonathan Watson scored in the third minute to give Union an early 1-0 lead. Jordan Johnson recorded an assist on the goal, which was the seventh of the season for the sophomore.
That turned out to be the lone goal of the first half, as both teams buckled down on the defensive end. After the first 45 minutes, Union held a slim 1-0 lead over Point.
In the second half, the Bulldogs exploded for four consecutive goals to put the game out of Point's reach. The first was scored by freshman Dino Sefer in the 53rd minute to make it 2-0 on a Bray assist.
The next three goals were scored by Bray, who put the ball into the back of the net in the 54th minute, the 61st minute, and the 67th minute to put UC up for good at 5-0. Dawson Marcum recorded an assist on Bray's second goal, while Joe Butcher notched one on his third goal.
The final goal of the game was scored by Point in the 83rd minute, but it was too little, too late for the Skyhawks, as the Bulldogs rolled to a big four-goal conference win.
Overall, Union outshot Point in the contest 24-19, while both teams took four corners on the night. In net, Juan Gallegos and Madison Justice both saw time in net, and made eight combined saves (four for each).
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, Oct. 13 when they travel to Montreat (N.C.) for another AAC tilt. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
