KINGSPORT, Tenn. - The Union College men's basketball team is slated to finish seventh according to the 2012-13 Appalachian Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll, the league announced Thursday.
Defending regular season and tournament champion Tennessee Wesleyan was picked by the leagues coaches to finish first, garnering 80 total points and eight first place votes. Reinhardt (Ga.) is slated to finish second with 61 total votes (and one first place vote), followed by Milligan (Tenn.) in third with 55 points and Virginia Intermont in fourth garnering 53 points.
In fifth sits Bryan (Tenn.) (51 points), followed by Montreat (N.C.) (34 points), and the Bulldogs (32 points) in sixth and seventh, respectively. Rounding out the poll are newest AAC member St. Andrews (N.C.) in eighth and Point (Ga.) in ninth.
Union comes into the season featuring new faces on the court, and on the bench. The Bulldogs will be led by first year head coach Kevin Burton, a veteran who is entering his 12th year as a collegiate head coach. The program also welcomes 13 newcomers to a squad returning just two starters from last year.
The Bulldogs are set to open their 2012-13 season on Monday, Oct. 29 at home against Brescia (Ky.). Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Robsion Arena.
