LAURINBURG. N.C. - Union College's Dino Sefer scored the game-winner in the final minutes, as the Bulldogs pulled out a 2-1 win at St. Andrews (N.C.) in Appalachian Athletic Conference men's soccer action on Saturday.
With the win, Union improved to 4-8-1 overall, and finish the regular season in the AAC with a 2-5-1 mark. St. Andrews fell to 6-8 with the loss, 2-5 in the AAC.
In the first period, Union got on the board first, as Cole Bray scored his fifth goal of the season off an assist from Sefer in the 21st minute to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. From there in the first half, the Bulldogs kept St. Andrews off the scoreboard, as goalie Juan Gallegos made seven saves in the first 45 minutes.
To start the second half, however, St. Andrews finally got a shot past Gallegos, as Caio Liberatti scored in the 47th minute to knot the match up at a goal, apiece. The match continued to stay that way as the clock ticked down to under five minutes in regulation.
Then, in the 86th minute, Sefer scored the game-winner, unassisted. The score was the third of the season for the sophomore, as Union went on to notch their first road victory of the season.
Overall, St. Andrews outshot Union 20-13 in the contest, while UC held a 6-0 edge on corner kicks. Gallegos ended the contest making 11 total saves in between the pipes for the Bulldogs.
Union returns to the pitch on Wednesday, traveling to Brescia (Ky.) for an out-of-conference tilt. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
