PINEVILLE, Ky. - The Union women's golf team collected the Bulldog Invite championship on Tuesday with a two-day score of 686.
The tournament was held at Wasioto Winds Golf Course in Pineville, Ky.
The Lady Bulldogs held a 12-stroke lead after the opening round over Tennessee Wesleyan. TWC made a run at Union during the final round as it shot a 341 with Union posting a 345. However, Tennessee Wesleyan could not make up the final eight strokes as it finished with a 694.
Rounding out the six-team field were: Bryan (Tenn.) in third at 714, Indiana Tech in fourth at 719, Pikeville (Ky.) in fifth at 725, and Asbury (Ky.) in sixth with a 772.
Katie Nusz paced Union with a two-day score of 170, which was good enough for fifth overall and to earn her a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Lexi Stewart of Tennessee Wesleyan took medalist honors with a 164, while Audrey Nelson of Bryan was second at 165. Carrilee Hiers of Bryan was third at 166, and Megan Garrison of Indiana Tech was fourth with a 168.
After Nusz, Ashley Buxton and Brittany Zins tied for sixth place with several others with a 172. Kelli Hensley and Sydney Smith were next in line with a 173, tying them for 11th.
The Lady Bulldogs will next play in the Lee (Tenn.) University Invitational on Oct. 29-30.
