BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Four Union College women's soccer players - Casey Camargo, Jenn Sckirl, Sofie Jorgensen, and Helen Weber - were all named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District Women's Soccer College Division First Team. The team was selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Camargo, a senior, earns a spot on the Academic All-District team for the second consecutive season. She has posted a 3.57 GPA as an athletic training major at UC, and has started in all 16 matches the Lady Bulldogs have played in on the 2012 season at defender. For her efforts, Camargo was named the AAC's Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 24.
Sckirl, also a senior, is now a two-time selection to the Academic All-District team after earning the honor last season. Sckirl has posted a 3.55 GPA as an athletic training major. A midfielder, Sckirl has also started in all 16 matches on the season, scoring three goals, while adding three assists for a nine point total. Sckirl has also scored one game-winner on the year, as well.
Jorgensen, a junior, earns a spot on the Academic All-District team for the first time after posting a 3.71 GPA as a marketing major. Jorgensen, who has played and started in 14 matches, is Union's leader on offense with a 28 point total on the year (11 goals, six assists). Jorgensen's 11 goal output is tied for the second best in the AAC, as is her 28 point total.
Weber, a sophomore, also nabs a spot on the Academic All-District team for the first time, posting a 3.52 GPA as an english/sociology major at Union. For the year, Weber has scored 10 goals, while adding four assists for a 24 point total. Both marks are high in the AAC, as Weber earned AAC Offensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 24.
The Union College women's soccer team is back in action on Saturday, hosting a quarterfinal match-up in the 2012 AAC Tournament at home against Reinhardt. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
