COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Union College men's and women's swimming team posted some impressive individual performances on the day, as the squad's traveled to Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) for a meet against the host Blue Raiders, and Campbellsville (Ky.) Saturday.

Overall, the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs obtained 17 NAIA National Qualifying "Cuts" on the afternoon, combined to win the three relay events they entered in, and captured 17 of the 23 individual events they took part in.  

In the dual match scores, the men's team swept Lindsey Wilson (96-24) and Campbellsville (110-3), while the women's team earned a split, besting Campbellsville (63-35) and falling to Lindsey Wilson (66-52).
 
"[Saturday's] performances were significant because they were obtained after the hardest week of training so far this season," said head coach Rafael Forti. "Our swimmers are tired, so to me it was very important to see how well we competed despite of this factor. 
 
"[Saturday's meet] was a battle of will between mind and body. I am happy to see our competitive mind set prevailed." 
 
On the individual end, there was several performances to note, including the fact that Union hit national qualifying cuts in several events for the first time on the year in the meet. 
 
On the women's side, Renata Cabral had an "A" cut in the 100-breast, hitting the wall in 1:11.16. Cabral won that event with her time, and won the other two events she took part in on the day - the 1000-free in 11:17.84 and the 100-fly in 1:00.63. Meanwhile, Tanya Eustrom posted a "B" cut in the 50-free, with a time of 26.48, capturing that event in the process. 
 
For the men, Travis Strachan had an "A" cut in the 50-free with a mark of 22.09, and Martino Cervera posted a "B" cut in the 400-IM finishing in 4:23.83. Strachan was a two-time winner on the day, capturing the 100-fly (53-72), as well. Meanwhile, Yan Rocha also captured two events, winning the 200-free (1:48.15) and the 100-free (49.68). 
 
The Union College swimming teams return to action Saturday, traveling to Transylvania (Ky.) for a dual meet. Action starts at 1 p.m.
