BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The 18th-ranked Union women's basketball team took care of business in its Appalachian Athletic Conference opener as the Lady Bulldogs posted an 87-44 win over visiting St. Andrews (N.C.) on Wednesday.

Union improves to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while St. Andrews is now 1-6 overall and 0-1 in the AAC.

Senior Lindsey Waters paced Union with 19 points, eight rebounds, six steals and three blocks with Laura Perkins following with 16 points, five assists and three steals.

The Lady Bulldogs connected on 47.7 percent (31-of-65 shots) of their shots from the floor and made 9-of-28 (32.1 percent) from 3-point range. St. Andrews shot 32.7 percent (16-of-49 shots) from the floor and missed all six 3-point attempts.

Perkins get the scoring going with a 3-pointer, and Union never trailed and the game was never tied. Up 9-6, the Lady Bulldogs used a 12-4 run to open up an 11-point cushion. Amber Taylor hit a layup at the 13:51 mark to make it 21-10.

St. Andrews cut the margin to 23-18 following a Karin Law basket. However, Union closed out the half on a 24-9 stretch to take a 45-27 lead into the break.

It was much of the same in the second half as the Lady Bulldogs maintained at least a 20-point lead for the final 16 minutes of the contest. Kaley Griffin's bucket with 29 seconds remaining give Union its largest lead of the game at 87-44. 

After Waters and Perkins, Taylor knocked in 12 points to go with five assists, three steals and two blocks. Alyson Roberts helped out with 11 points and four assists.

Jazmyne Harvey was the only St. Andrews player to hit double digits as she finished with 14 points.

The Lady Bulldogs outrebounded the Lady Knights 45-37 and forced St. Andrews into 33 turnovers. Union recorded 21 steals as well.

Union hits the road Saturday when it will visit Tennessee Wesleyan in another AAC tilt. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
