BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – The Union College Bulldogs will remember the program’s 1,000th victory which was a 75-73 victory over Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.) University Sunday in the final game of the Union College/Best Western Wilderness Trail Inn Holiday Classic.

The game saw a total of 26 lead changes and six ties. The last lead change occurred when Union’s Aaron Dunaway (Lexington, Ky.) scored three of his team-high 28 points with just over two minutes left in the contest. His 28 points is the most scored by any Bulldog this season and two off his career high. He made and attempted more field goals, 10-for-19, than any other Union player so far through the season. He also bested the team high with seven free throws made in eight attempts.

The game was still in doubt as Lincoln Memorial had a chance to pull the victory out. After Chris Stunson (Richmond, Ky.) went 1-for-2 at the free throw line, Matt Bogard missed a shot with six seconds left. Wadner Joseph grabbed the rebound for the Railsplitters, but Brian Kirk (Augusta, Ky.) stole the ball away to clinch the victory for Union.

It took 83 seasons for Union to win the 1,000th game. The Bulldogs now hold an overall record of 1000-959-1 since the program started in 1920.

The largest lead either team enjoyed was five points. Union enjoyed a slim 37-36 advantage after the first half ended.

The Bulldogs extend their longest winning streak of the season to four games to improve to 9-5. The last time Union won four games in a row was in November of 2005.

Lincoln Memorial, a NCAA Division II school, moved to 4-6 on the season.

Freshman Josh Hurd (Independence, Ky.) scored in double-digits for the seventh time this season with ten points. Stunson finished the game with nine points, but he dished out five assists and recorded a pair of steals.

Lincoln Memorial’s Beau Brown and his 36 points was the most by anyone on the court. Brown was 7-for-13 behind the 3-point line and 14-for-22 from the field. He also accounted for a game-best six assists. Ryan Whitaker and Terry Delaney also chipped in 14 and ten points, respectively.

Both teams attempted 53 shots, however Union made 30 compared to Lincoln Memorial’s 27 baskets. The Railsplitters did enjoy an advantage behind the arc as they were 10-for-21 and Union finished the game 2-for-8. Union grabbed ten more rebounds, 33-23, than Lincoln Memorial.
