BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College women's swimming coach Rafael Forti has announced that the Lady Bulldog program has added two swimmers to the roster for the Spring 2013 semester in Anna Kotliarova and Kasey McCormick.
Both Kotliarova and McCormick are juniors, and took part in UC's last meet this past Saturday at home against Bethel (Tenn.) and West Virginia Tech.
Kotliarova, a native of Kharov, Ukraine, comes into UC from the National University Law Academy in her native country. There, she won both regional and university championships while swimming butterfly and freestyle events. Kotliarova will swim those same events at Union.
"Anna is a very experienced swimmer who brings in a nice wealth of knowledge of the sport having had the chance to swim at the highest level in Europe," said Forti. "I know she will adjust to her new surroundings quickly and will be a great asset for our program."
McCormick, a Maryville, Tenn. native, will be a familar face for Lady Bulldog fans, as she was a member of the team from 2009-2011. McCormick has sat out the last three semesters, but returns to the UC lineup in 2013. She will swim breaststroke and IM for the Lady Bulldogs, and will look to build upon an already successful career at UC.
In all, McCormick hold program records in the 50, 100, and 200 breaststroke events, and swam a leg on a record breaking 400-medley relay squad. In 2011, McCormick earned an NAIA Honorable Mention selection on the UC 200-medley relay team.
"I am excited that Kasey has decided to return "home"," continued Forti. "I've had the pleasure to work with her for two seasons already and I know she has a tremendous potential on breaststroke events, but can swim a large selection of events competitively. I know she will help us a lot.
The Union women's swimming team returns to action on Friday, traveling to Milligan for a meet against the host Buffaloes and Lindsey Wilson (Ky.). Action begins at 6 p.m.
