BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Tennessee Wesleyan's Tyler Burse scored a game-high 22 points, as TWC was dominant in the second half on their way to a 97-78 win over the Union College men's basketball team in Appalachian Athletic Conference action at Robsion Arena on Saturday.
With the loss, Union fell to 9-12 overall, 3-7 in the AAC, while Tennessee Wesleyan improved to 16-7, 9-1 in the AAC with the victory.
The game began at a frantic pace in the first period, as Union opened up a six point lead (21-15) with 14:29 left in the half after a Tyrell Hall jumper. From there, TWC continued to make runs at the slim UC, lead, but the host Bulldogs continued to hold it, and were up 35-32 with four minutes left in the half after another Hall jumper.
It was a completely different story for both teams in the second half, as TWC went on a back breaking 16-2 over the first five minutes of the period to open a 63-46 lead. From there, Union struggled to get back in it, as TWC went on to extend the lead out to an insurmountable 28 points (84-56) with 10 minutes left.
The lead was far too much for UC to come back from, as TWC controlled the second half from the start, and coasted down the stretch. In the period, TWC outscored UC 50-34 on their way to the big AAC road victory.
Overall, Hall led Union in a losing effort, scoring 16 points off the bench. Wagner scored 14 points, while Archie Adams added 11. Burse led four TWC double-digit scorers in the victory, going 9-of-14 from the floor to record his 22-point night.
The Union men's basketball team returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Reinhardt (Ga.) at Robsion Arena in another AAC tilt. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
