BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The Union College men's and women's swimming teams ended their 2012-13 regular season on Saturday in dominating fashion over King (Tenn.), Campbellsville (Ky.), and Bethel (Tenn.), on a day where two Bulldog senior swimmers were honored for their contributions to the program.
Overall, the men's team controlled all three opponents, beating King, 102-13, Bethel, 107-8, and Campbellsville 107-0. With the sweep, the men's team ends the dual-meet season with an impressive 13-1 record, which marks the best regular season in program history. "I am happy with the way our team has finished the regular season," said head coach Rafael Forti. "I'm happy for the way our seniors competed [Saturday]. Their leadership and experience have been valuable for our team, and will play a key role into this postseason."
In the meet, Union won 21 of the 28 events contested, with the men's team winning all 14 events in their portion of the schedule. In all, 23 NAIA National Qualifying Cuts were obtained in the meet (10 "A" cuts and 13 "B" cuts) by Union.
Four of those cuts were obtained for the first time on the year, and were all hit by women. Ambrosio won all three individual events he took part in (200-fly, 200-breast, 400-IM), and swam a leg on a victorious 200-medley relay team, while Glavinos Jr. won two of the three individual events he took part in (100-back and 200-back), while helping the 200-medley team win, as well.
