DANVILLE, Ky. – Michael Viscardi and the Union College Bulldogs’ swim team made a strong showing this weekend at the Colonel Classic hosted by Centre (Ky.) College in the team's first meet of the calendar year.
Viscardi (Marietta, Ga.) won the 200-yard breaststroke and picked up a third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke. His time in the 200 breaststroke was two minutes and 22.74 seconds while the 100 breaststroke time was 1:05.29.
He was also the anchor leg of the 800 freestyle relay team that finished fourth. Colin McEachran (Blenheim, Canada), Karl Smith (Lexington, Ky.) and Jeremiah Back (Flatgap, Ky.) were the first three swimmers of the first three legs. The quartet finished the event at the 8:17.85 mark.
Back also swam to a tenth-place finish in the 100 freestyle after he posted a time of 54.33 seconds
Senior Adam Woodard (Hopkinsville, Ky.) recorded two top-10 finishes in a pair of freestyle sprints. In the 100 freestyle he was ninth and added a tenth-place finish in the 50 freestyle race. His time in the 100 was 54.12 and 23.80 in the 50.
Union finished fifth in the team standings while the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) took the team championship. This marked the first meet for the Bulldogs since the Asbury (Ky.) College Invitational which ended on Dec. 1.
Next on the schedule for the Bulldogs is another trip to Centre when Union will face Asbury and Centre Saturday, Jan. 26.
