KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Union College forward Lindsey Waters was named the Appalachian Athletic Conference's Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Year, while guard Haley Perkins was named the league's Freshman of the Year, as the 2012-13 All-AAC awards were announced Wednesday evening.

Waters, a senior, shared the conference's Player of the Year award with Milligan's (Tenn.) Johneshia Good. For Waters, it marks the second straight year she has been named the league's Player of the Year.

Waters, who also earned a spot on the All-AAC First Team and the All-AAC Defensive team, was UC's leader on both ends of the floor once again during the 2012-13 season. 

She ended the regular season leading the team in scoring (16.7 points a game), rebounding (9.7 rebound a game), and blocks (88). Waters' block totals are some of the best in the country, ranking second in the NAIA Division II in total blocks, and third in blocks per game (3.3 per game).

Perkins, who was also named to the All-AAC Third Team, finished right behind Waters in the team's scoring averages during the regular year, scoring 11 points a game. She also ended the regular season recording the most steals on the team (64), while averaging 5.6 rebounds per game, as well.

Joining Perkins on the All-Freshman Team was Lydia Nash, who averaged 9.0 points and 2.8 rebounds on the year.
 

Several Lady Bulldogs were also honored for their work in the classroom, earning a spot on the All-AAC Academic Team. They were - Waters, Laura Perkins, Marah Rice, and Jennifer Thomas.

The Lady Bulldogs open the 2013 AAC Women's Basketball Tournament tomorrow afternoon at the MeadowView Marriott Conference Resort & Convention Center in Kingsport, Tenn. Union, the third-seed, plays sixth-seed Virginia Intermont at 5:15 p.m.
