BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The Union College softball team controlled things from the start against Grace (Ind.) in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday, winning 10-2 in five innings to salvage a split at Union Field. In game one, the Lady Bulldogs dropped a 7-6 decision.
With the results, UC went to 4-2 on the year, while Grace went to 1-3.
In the second game, the Lady Bulldogs scored four runs in the second, and three more in the third top open up an 8-2 lead after three innings. UC then added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to end the game.
At the plate in game two, junior Autumn Greenwell led the way, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. Sophomore Ashley Wojnowski also had a big game, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Wojnowski also stole three bases in the win.
In the circle, Katie Perkins picked up the victory, tossing five innings, giving up just two runs on five hits.
In the first game, Grace took a one-run lead in the fifth, and hung on over the final two frames to collect the win. UC had just five hits in the loss, with Wojnowski scoring three more times. In the circle, freshman Gianna Schauer took the loss in a four-inning relief effort.
The Union College softball team returns to action on Tuesday, traveling to No. 15 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. EST.
