MILLIGAN, Tenn. - Union College turned up the defense and upended host No. 20 Milligan (Tenn.) College 61-46 in Appalachian Athletic Conference action Tuesday.

Union held Milligan to 33.9 percent (20-of-59 shots) shooting and 1-for-11 shooting (9.1 percent) from 3-point range. Milligan didn't help itself at the foul line as it hit just 55.6 percent (5-of-9).

Meanwhile, Union connected on 46.4 percent (26-of-56 shots) from the field.

The win ended Union's two-game losing streak as it improved to 12-8 overall and 2-5 in conference play. Milligan fell to 14-3 overall and 5-2 in the AAC.

Union opened the game with a 14-1 lead as James Johnson (Lexington, Ky.) scored six points during the opening rally. Millligan fought back, cutting the margin to 22-18 with 45 seconds left in the half. However, Johnson scored with 16 seconds on the clock to send Union into the half with a 24-18 lead.

Milligan pulled within 29-26 following a Patrick Youmessi bucket at the 16:10 mark. Yet, Union responded with a 14-4 rally to make it 43-30 and cruised to the 15-point victory.

Johnson led Union with a season-high 19 points, while Aaron Dunaway (Lexington, Ky.) chipped in 15.

For Milligan, Isaiah Harris was the lone player to hit double digits as he netted 12 points.

Union won the battle on the boards, outrebounding Milligan 41-24 with Johnson, Dunaway and Hubertus von Heydon (Neulengbach, Austria) each had seven rebounds. In addition to the rebounds, von Heydon also recorded five blocks.

Union returns to action Saturday when it plays host to Bryan (Tenn.) College at 6 p.m.
