CLEVELAND, Tenn. - The Union men's golf team kicked off its spring schedule on Monday and is in eighth place after the first round of the Lee (Tenn.) University Invitational
The Bulldogs tallied a total score of 311, placing them two strokes behind seventh-place Reinhardt (Ga.). Host Lee is in first with an even-par score of 288 with Cumberlands (Ky.) two back at 290. Rounding out the top five are Coastal Georgia at 294, Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) at 300 and Tennessee Wesleyan at 301.
There are 14 teams participating.
Lee's Taylor Davis leads the field with a four-under 68, one better than Cumberlands' Matt Walton. Dylan Freeman of Coastal Georgia and Logan Martin of Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) are knotted at third at 70, and Cumberlands' Niclas Rigbrandt is fifth at 71.
Leading Union are Garrett Bradley (Jellico, Tenn.) and Richie Meier (Lexington, Ky.), who are tied for 20th overall at four-over 76. Thomas Scott (Musselburgh, Scotland) shot a 77 to put him in a tie for 28th, and Tim Cooper (Falmouth, Ky.) posted an 82 to tie him for 53rd.
The final round will be held Tuesday.
