BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The Union baseball made the most of its opportunities and scored a doubleheader sweep of visiting Mid-Continent (Ky.) on Tuesday, winning 2-1 and 11-2.

With the victories, Union has won three in a row and is one away from equaling the season best. The Bulldogs won four in a row last week, beginning with a 5-0 win over St. Andrews (N.C.) on March 10, a twinbill sweep of Holy Cross (Ind.) on March 13, and a 9-3 at Montreat (N.C.) on March 16. The wins also improve Union to 17-10 overall.

Mid-Continent drops to 8-17 on the year.

The Cougars had numerous chances to put runs on the board as they stranded a total of 18 men on base in the two games and only went down in order only once in the 14 innings of play.

Meanwhile, Union took advantage of seven Mid-Continent errors to score six unearned runs on the day.

Game 1 - Turning Point
Mid-Continent scratched out a run in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 1-1, but a Cougar error in the bottom of the frame helped the game-winning run to cross the plate. With one out, LaVance Anderson (Bowling Green, Ky.) reached on an error, advancing to second since the throw went out of play. He then stole third before scoring on Gabby Juarbe's (San Juan, P.R.) groundout to give Union a 2-1 lead.

The Cougars threatened in the seventh as Joseph Blair lined a two-out double and Dondre McCarter followed with a walk. However, Jared Tomany (Bryant, Wis.) got Jordan Adams to fly out to center to secure the 2-1 Bulldog victory.

Trey Alexander (Glasgow, Ky.) picked up the win, going six innings and allowing one earned run on eight hits and three walks with five strikeouts. He is now 2-0 on the season. Tomany gave up a hit and a walk in his inning of work in collecting his second save of the season.

Jack Coleman went the distance and took the loss for Mid-Continent, dropping him to 0-2.

Mid-Continent outhit Union 9-4. Nelson Price (Burkesville, Ky.) went 1-for-3 with a triple and scored on Tomany's sac fly in the second inning.

Game 2 - Turning Point
The Bulldogs came out of the gate swinging, scoring four runs in the first en route to the 11-2 decision. Union sent 10 batters to the plate and took advantage of two Mid-Continent errors in posting four runs. Price and Tomany each received bases-loaded walks to score the game's first two runs. Jackson Arnett (Tompkinsville, Ky.) added a run-scoring single, and Ben Hartley (Lexington, Ky.) reached on an error to knock in the fourth run.

Union added three more in the third before Mid-Continent was able to score a run in each the fourth and fifth frames. The Bulldogs sealed the win with a run in the bottom of the fifth and three more in the sixth for the 11-2 victory.

The Bulldogs ripped 14 hits with Brake going 3-for-4 with a run scored and one RBI. Juarbe finished 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, and Anderson went 2-for-5 with three runs scored.

Vance Sullivan (Verona, Ky.) improved to a team-best 4-0 as he allowed two earned run on six hits and no walks with four strikeouts in five innings pitched. Jacob Janutolo (Loveland, Ohio) tossed two scoreless innings, giving up only three hits.

Luke Deaton lasted only two-plus innings and suffered the loss, giving up seven runs, five earned on 10 hits and two walks with one strikeout. He is now 3-4 on the season.
