JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Senior Brandon Kibert lowered his school record in the 5,000 meters Saturday morning at the Niswonger Invitational inside Memorial Center at East Tennessee State University. Another Bulldog just missed adding his name to the school's record book.

Kibert (Tazewell, Tenn.) finished with a time of 16 minutes and 2.99 seconds dropping the school record by 16 seconds.

Johnnie Nabors (Lawrenceville, Ga.) finished fourth in the 60-meter dash final with a time of 6.91 seconds. Teammate Andre Thornton (Loganville, Ga.) was eighth overall as he crossed the finish line at the 6.98 mark. Both were in the same section of the finals, with Nabors taking the win and Thornton third.

Erick Coleman (Chicago, Ill.) came close to a Union record in the long jump. He was second in his flight with a jump of 21 feet and 1.25 inches. He could not improve his leap in the finals and finished second.

Cody Miller (Middlesboro, Ky.) and Scotty Barnes (Ewing, Va.) also competed in the long jump. Miller leaped 17 feet and 2.25 inches and Barnes jumped 15 feet 11.5 inches.

Distance runners Daniel Kual (Stone Mountain, Ga.) and Brennan O’Quinn (Meadowview, Va.) raced in the mile and fared well in their first meet of the season. Kual was .8 seconds off Kibert’s school record with a time of 4:41.90. O’Quinn followed with a 4:58.49 time.

Kibert, Kual, O'Quinn and Vincent Hawkins (Hopkinsville, Ky.) made up Union's distance-medley relay team that posted a time of 11:14.69.

The Bulldogs will travel to Bloomington, Ind. next weekend for the Gladstein Invitational.
