ST. CATHARINE, Ky. - The Union College softball team was swept in an out-of-conference doubleheader on the road at St. Catharine (Ky.) on Friday. The host Patriots took game one, 14-5 (in five innings), then completed the sweep with a 6-3 win in game two.

With the pair of losses, UC fell to 10-20 overall, while SCC improved to 14-18 with the victories..

Game One

In game one, the Lady Bulldogs leaped out to a 5-1 run lead after an inning and a half, only to see St. Catharine roll the rest of the way, scoring 13 runs over the next three innings to clinch a nine-run, five inning victory.

After taking the 5-1 lead, St. Catharine added two runs in the bottom half of the second to cut the deficit down to 5-3 after two. The Lady Bulldogs failed to score a run the rest of the way, as the Patriots scored four runs in the third to take a 7-5 lead after three, then two more runs in the fourth to extend the lead out to 9-5 after four.

In the fifth, the Patriots ended the contest with a five-run inning, ending the game on a grand slam home run.

Overall, shortstop Ashley Wojnowski led the Lady Bulldogs at the dish in game one, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. In the pitching circle, Gianna Schauer (3-10) took the loss, lasting just four innings.

Game Two

In game two, St. Catharine was the one to jump out to a lead, only to see it disappear in one inning, as the Lady Bulldogs came back from an early 2-0 deficit to take a 3-2 lead in the top of the third. Jamie Cyrus had the big hit in that inning, smacking a three-run home run, her third homer of the season.

However, in the bottom half of the third, SCC quickly tied the game up at 3-3 with a run. The Patriots then added two runs in the fourth, and another in the sixth, as the Lady Bulldogs failed to score another run the rest of the game, despite threatening on several occasions.

Overall in game two, Rachel Cogdill and Danielle Borum led the UC offense, each having three-hit games. Cogdill went a perfect 3-for-3, while Borum was 3-for-4 with a run scored. In the circle, Cogdill (0-4) took the loss.
