ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Union College's Kayse Cornett has been named the Appalachian Athletic Conference's Women's Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced Monday, marking the second straight week the sophomore has won the award.
This past week, Cornett had an impressive performance at the Bellarmine (Ky.) Invitational on Saturday.
She registered the highest finish in an event for the Lady Bulldogs, placing 12th in the hammer throw with a 78 foot, nine inch effort, which was a new school record in the event. Cornett also registered top 20 finishes in the discus (53 feet, four inches) and the shot put (31 feet, 5.75 inches).
Cornett and the rest of the Lady Bulldogs return to the track on Saturday, taking part in the Cumberlands (Ky.) Invitational in Williamsburg, Ky.
