COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Union College softball team dropped two tough games to Columbia in Appalachian Athletic Conference action on Sunday. The Lady Bulldogs dropped the first game of the doubleheader, 4-3, then lost game two, 5-2.

With the losses, UC fell to 11-27 overall, 3-13 in the AAC, while Columbia improved to 21-17, 10-8 in the AAC with the doubleheader sweep.

In game one, Union jumped out to a 2-0 lead after three innings, as Brianna Degennaro and Cameron Campbell smacked RBI singles in the top of the third to give the Lady Bulldogs the two-run edge. However, Columbia roared back over the next two innings, taking a 4-2 lead after five.

The score remained that way entering the seventh, where UC made one last run at the lead. Autumn Greenwell led the top of the frame off with a solo home run to cut the Columbia lead down to a run, but it was the only run Union plated in the inning, as Columbia hung on for the victory.

In the second game, Columbia jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three innings, then added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to go up 5-0. Union added lone runs in the sixth and seventh, but a late rally once again fell short, as Columbia completed the sweep with the three-run win.

Union returns to action on Tuesday, host St. Andrews (N.C.) in an AAC doubleheader in the squad's 2013 home finale. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 2 p.m.
