BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College head men's soccer coach Tyler Brock has announced that Andre Scott has signed his National Letter of Intent, and plans to join the Bulldog program in time for summer practices in a few months in preparation for the 2013 season.
Scott, a midfielder, joins the Union program from St. Catherine, Jamaica, where he prepped at Glenmure High School.
There, as a member of the boys soccer team, Scott helped his squad win the DeCota Cup Finals, one of the high school national championship finals in Jamaica. During the DeCosta Cup season, Scott scored 12 goals and added 12 assists. Scott has also clubbed with the Lionel Town Soccer Club, as well.
"[Assistant] Coach [Oniqueky] Samuels got to see Andre when he was busy winning in the DeCosta Cup Finals in Jamaica and was very impressed with his ability," said Brock. "We are expecting big things from Andre, he is going to be bringing a lot of raw speed to the pitch. His ability to get in and behind defenders will enable us have more scoring opportunities than we have had in the past from that outside position.
"He loves to get forward and engage defenders. He is very good in tight places and loves to penetrate and create quality chances for the offense."
Andre is the son of Karline Yates and Winston McKenzie. The Bulldogs kick-off their 2013 season on Aug. 30, hosting Emmanuel (Ga.) as part of the 2013 Thomas Trammel Memorial Classic.
