BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union's Brittany Zins (Cincinnati, Ohio) is one of 131 women's golf student-athletes have been named 2013 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes, the NAIA announced Thursday at the NAIA National Championship Tournament in Lincoln, Neb.
This marks the sixth time a Lady Bulldog received this award, however, Zins is the first since 2005. Zins is also the fourth different Lady Bulldog to be named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete. The other Union honorees are Kelly Robinson in 2001 and 2002, Alice Foster in 2002 and Taryn Jacobus in 2004 and 2005.
Zins, a junior, also earned All-Appalachian Athletic Conference Second Team honors and was named to the AAC's All-Academic Team. She helped Union to a third-place finish in the conference regular-season season.
In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.
