BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union sophomore Zach Dillman was named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Baseball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The Cincinnati, Ohio, native earned a spot on the third team in becoming the third Bulldog to make the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team. Kevin Smith made the squad in 2006 while Brandon Hendrick received the honor in 2012.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 15,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
A business major, Dillman made the Academic All-America® team as a designated hitter. He played in 48 games and batted .341 and had two doubles, two triples and 30 RBIs. Dillman boasted a .384 slugging percentage and a .397 on-base percentage. Three times this season he lined four hits in a game and drove in three RBIs twice.
Union finished the season 30-23 overall and 14-10 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.
