BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union head tennis coach Bob Duricko recently announced the addition of three local talents for the 2013-14 Lady Bulldog tennis team as Richi ShacklefordAmber Howard and Abigail Carnes signed letters of intent.

All three are recent graduates from Knox Central High School in Barbouville.

"I am pleased to be able to add these three young ladies to our program," said Duricko. "They will be the beginning of what we hope will be a strong foundation to our program."

Shackleford played six years for Knox Central beginning with her seventh-grade year. This past season, she played No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for the Lady Panthers. Shackleford participated in region tournament in four of her six years on the varsity team.

Carnes played all four years for Knox Central and played in the region tournament all four seasons. She played No. 3 singles for the Lady Panthers.

Howard is new to tennis but is strong in academics and will be learning the game.

Tennis is making its return at Union following a two-year hiatus. The tennis programs were suspended following the 2011 season. Prior to the recent hiatus, the women's program amassed four AAC regular-season championships, three AAC tournament crowns, two region championships and five berths to the NAIA National Championship Tournament.
