BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College men's swimming coach Rafael Forti has announced that Maxime Potvin has signed his National Letter of Intent, and is expected to join the Bulldog program this fall.

Potvin, a native of Laval, Quebec, Canada, prepped at Collège Letendre in his native country, while also clubbing with Natation Laval. In March of this year, Potvin was named the Best Male Swimmer at the Quebec Cup.

"It is with great joy we welcome Max to our team and school," said Forti. "He is a very strong swimmer who can provide immediate impact in our team line-up. He possesses a great butterfly and freestyle for short distances.

"He will add much needed depth to our sprint events, and will also provide us with a lot of flexibility in our freestyle and medley relays. I am looking forward to seeing how much of a game changer he will be."

Maxime, the son of Josée Sarda and Steve Potvin, plans to major in International Business at Union College.

The Bulldogs open their 2013-14 campaign on Oct. 19, hosting Cumberlands (Ky.) and St. Catharine (Ky.) at the Stivers Aquatic Center.
