BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The Union College volleyball team was dominant in two matches on the day, besting Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Point (Ga.) and Brescia (Ky.) by a pair of 3-0 scores Saturday at Robsion Arena.

With the results, Union goes to 4-4 overall on the year, 2-1 in the AAC. 

"I'm glad to see our team play with more consistency today," said head coach Jeremy Wise. "We worked in eliminating our unforced errors at practice this week and it helped. Our serving was also improved which helped out our offense.

"It's nice to pick up a couple of win and see the team come together today."

Union 3, Point 0

In their first match of the day, the Lady Bulldogs blew past Point in AAC action, winning in three sets by scores of 25-20, 25-11, 25-7.

In the first set, things went back and forth, with the Lady Bulldogs eventually holding a slim 19-18 lead. There, Union took control, going on a 6-2 run to end the set and go up 1-0. Match point was scored on a block-assist by Brooke Hill and Karina Ramos.

In the second set, Union leaped out to a 9-2 lead, and never looked back, coasting to a 25-11 win. The Lady Bulldogs were even more dominant in the third and final set, completely dominating play from the start (the team opened a 10-2 lead), on their way to rolling to the AAC victory in a sweep.

Overall, the Union attack was led by Hill, who posted 11 kills. Paige Moore collected eight kills, while Julia Edmonds ended with seven kills. Libero Ana Calaza led the defense, registering 17 digs in the victory.

Union 3, Brescia 0

It was more of the same for Union in their second match of the day, as the Lady Bulldogs put away Brescia with ease in three sets by scores of 25-5, 25-14, and 25-15.

Union was absolutely dominant in the first set, opening up a 7-0 lead out of the gate and never looking back in the 25-5 win. Things changed in the second set, as Brescia took an early 10-9 lead. However, Union scored seven straight points to go up 16-10, as they reclaimed the momentum on their way to an 11-point win.

In the third set, Union put it away early, jumping out to a 10-0 lead in the set's outset, on their way to clinching the match with a 10-point win.

Overall, Ramos led the Union attack, notching eight kills, while Moore posted seven to cap off a strong day. Calaza notched 19 more digs in the Brescia match, while Chandler Gray and Heather Fields recorded 13 assists, apiece.

Union returns to action on Friday, taking part in the 2013 Volleydawg Classic in Lebanon, Tenn. The Lady Bulldogs open play with a match against host Cumberland (Tenn.) at 2 p.m.
