CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - The Union men's and women's bowling teams opened the 2013-14 season over the weekend at the Green River Classic with the men placing 16th and the women ninth.
The tournament was hosted by Campbellsville (Ky.) and featured 18 men's teams and 16 women's teams.
The Union men tallied a total pinfall of 6,030 to land 16th. The University of Louisville (Ky.) took top honors with a total pinfall of 7,117.
Jonathon Courtney led Union with a 13th-place showing out of 127 bowlers as he averaged 191.4 pinfall.
The Union women notched a pinfall of 6,097 to crack the top 10 and finish ninth overall. Pikeville (Ky.) won the event with a score of 7,068.
Kimberly Alexander and Marissa Campbell paced Union with 10th- and 11th-place showings. Alexander had an average score of 186.8, while Campbell sported a 186.2 average.
The men's team returns to action on Oct. 19-20 at the Orange and Black Classic in Beavercreek, Ohio. The women's team next competes at the Southern Kentucky Invitational in Bowling Green, Ky., on Oct. 26-27.
