WALESKA, Ga. - Senior Caity Merritt posted a game-high 18 kills, leading the Union College volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of Reinhardt (Ga.) in Appalachian Athletic Conference action on Saturday. The Bulldogs took the straight set win in scores of 25-21, 25-19, and 26-24.
With the win, Union moved to 13-5 overall, 7-2 in the AAC, while Reinhardt fell to 8-5 overall, 5-5 in the AAC with the loss.
"It was a hard fought match today and the ladies stayed focused all match," said head coach Jeremy Wise. "We made smart plays and crucial points throughout the match. I'm proud of their execution and intensity level today, allowing us to sweep on the day and weekend."
Overall, Merritt's 18 kill performance in the match tied for her second best performance in that department for the season. Elsewhere, Paige Moore posted an 11 kill performance, and junior Heather Fields notched 35 assists, her third highest total of the year. Defensively, libero Ana Calaza posted 14 digs, while freshman Alexis Means notched three block-assists.
Union returns to action on Tuesday evening, traveling to AAC-foe Montreat for another conference road match. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m.
