PINEVILLE, Ky. - It was a good day for the Union golf programs as the men's team won the Bulldog Fall Invitational and the women finished as runner-up on Tuesday. The tournaments were held at Wasioto Winds Golf Course in Pineville, Ky.
The Union men wrapped up the suspended first round with a 297, tying them with St. Andrews for the lead. However, the Bulldogs turned in an impressive 290 during the second round to finish with final tally of 587. St. Andrews (N.C.) finished eight strokes back at 595 to claim second.
Rounding out the rest of the 11-team field were Pikeville (Ky.) in third at 601, Cumberlands (Ky.) B Team in fourth at 611, Asbury (Ky.) in fifth at 613, Point (Ga.) in sixth at 615, UVa-Wise in seventh at 624, Union B Team in eighth at 636, St. Catharine (Ky.) in ninth at 649, Bryan (Tenn.) in 10th at 653 and Cincinnati Christian (Ohio) in 11th at 696.
Garrett Bradley collected top honors as he finished with a 4-under 140 for the tournament. He fired a 3-under 69 during the opening round and capped it off with a 1-under 71 during Tuesday's final round. He edged Timmy Millier of Pikeville and Patrick Goodhue of Cumberlands by a stroke as the two tied for second at 3-under 141. St. Andrews' Matthew Latham and Daniel Wieck rounded out the all-tournament team as the placed fourth and fifth, respectively, at 144 and 145.
Union's Simon Taylor placed sixth with a 2-over 146, while Andy Dusek tied for ninth at 5-over 149. Tim Cooper rounded out Union's scoring as he tied for 13th with four others with a 9-over 153.
The Union women shaved 20 strokes off their first-round score to finish with a 664 to claim second place. St. Andrews won the even with a 632.
Union posted a 342 during the opening round but came back with a 322 over the final 18 holes.
Rounding out the nine-team field were: Reinhardt (Ga.) in third at 672, Point in fourth at 684, Pikeville in fifth at 686, Asbury in sixth at 701, Truett-McConnell (Ga.) in seventh at 707, Bryan in eighth at 713, and Union's B Team in ninth at 807.
Lauren Kinsman of St. Andrews took medalist honors as she finished with a 3-over 147, putting her seven strokes better than second-place Katy Humphrey of Pikeville. Madison Moore of St. Andrews was third at 156 with Union's Katie Nusz taking fourth at 160. Kayla Smith of Reinhardt rounds out the all-tournament team as she posted a 161.
Sydney Smith tied for seventh with a 164, and Danielle Judd tied for 10th in carding a 166.
Up next for the Union men is the Fall Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament in Elizabethton, Tenn. on Oct. 14-15. The Union women heads to the Reinhardt Invitational in Waleski, Ga., on Oct. 21-22.
