BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The Union volleyball team continues to roll, picking a 3-0, Appalachian Athletic Conference sweep over visiting St. Andrews on Friday.
The Bulldogs had little trouble of dispatching the Lady Knights, winning 25-16, 25-13, 25-14.
With the win, Union improved to 17-6 overall and 10-2 in conference play. St. Andrews falls to 7-14 overall and 3-10 in the AAC.
Caity Merritt and Paige Moore led Union with 12 kills apiece. Moore posted a .600 hitting percentage, recording her 12 kills in 20 attempts with no errors. Heather Fields notched 39 assists, while Ana Calaza had 21 digs.
Union opened a 5-1 lead in the first set, but St. Andrews kept things close for a bit. The Lady Knights cut the margin to 14-12 off a Buldog attack error, but Union closed out the frame on an 11-4 surge to take it 25-16.
The Bulldogs scored the first seven points of the second set and built a 13-3 cushion. St. Andrews never got closer than seven points of Union, which went on to win the frame 25-13. Moore had five kills during the set with Merritt and Karina Ramos each adding four.
The third set was tight early on, but Union used a 6-0 run to break open a 17-8 lead. The margin went lower than eight as Union claimed teh 25-14 decision and the 3-0 sweep.
As a team, Union hit .368 with 43 kills in 87 attempts and only 11 attack errors. Ramos recorded nine kills to go with three block assists. Merritt had a solo block and three block assists, and Julia Edmonds posted seven kills.

- With the win, Union has matched its win total from last season in 11 fewer contests.
- Calaza is now 21 digs away from hitting 500 for the season.
- This is the 13th time Merritt and Moore have had double-digit kills in the same match.

Union will play host to Columbia (S.C.) in another conference showdown on Saturday at 2 p.m. Earlier this season, the Koalas handled the Bulldogs a 3-0 loss.
