ATHENS, Tenn. - Tennessee Wesleyan scored three second half goals to get past the Union College women's soccer team, 3-1, in Appalachian Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, Union fell to 3-10 overall. 2-5 in the AAC. Tennessee Wesleyan improved to 9-6 overall, 7-2 in the AAC with the victory.
After a scoreless first half that saw Union outshoot Tennessee Wesleyan 5-3, TWC cracked the scoreless tie in the 61st minute when Kimberly Key scored. Key added another goal in the 67th minute, giving the host Lady Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.
Union, however, got right back in the match in the 70th minute when Aline Dalmedico scored, unassisted, to cut the deficit in half at 2-1. The goal for the junior was her 11th of the season.
But, Tennessee Wesleyan put the match away in the 87th minute, as Key finished off the hat trick with the go-ahead goal to put TWC up by two. The deficit was too much for the Bulldogs to come back from, as TWC took the AAC victory.
Overall, Tennessee Wesleyan outshot Union 12-10 in the contest, while Union held a 2-1 edge on corner kicks.
Union finishes up their road trip on Tuesday, traveling to Point (Ga.) for another AAC match. Things get underway at 1 p.m.
