BEAVERCREEK, Ohio - The Union men's bowling team showed much improvement in its second meet of the year, but the Bulldogs finished 20th at the Orange & Black Classic over the weekend.
Union tallied a total pinfall of 8,084, an improvement of over 2,000 from its season opener three weeks ago. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, the field in this week's tournament was strong as their score was only good enough for 20th out of 24 teams.
"We bowled really well, and we showed a lot of improvement," said Union coach Chelsea Gilliam. "But it does not really show in our placing as this was a real tough tournament. There were a lot of really good teams there."
Lindenwood (Mo.) won the event with a score of 10,017 with Notre Dame College (Ohio) taking second at 9,916. Pikeville (Ky.) was third at 9,845 with Martin Methodist (Tenn.) (9,766) and Urbana (Ohio) (9,515) rounding out the top five.
Jonathan Courtney led Union individually with a 113th-place showing as he tallied a pinfall of 1,044. Ryan Racimo was next for the Bulldogs at 896. Michael Ingram and Jordan Franks followed with scores of 864 and 854, respectively.
Up next for Union is the Southern Kentucky Invitational in Bowling Green, Ky., on Saturday and Sunday.
